Coffee with Cream

Just as it seems coffee has been around forever, so it seems we have always known each other as friends. Coffee is welcomed at any occasion. It's the drink that delights kings and commoners alike, and it's the thing that brings us together across a table...or across many miles. So sit down and let me serve you a cup....

I am a mother of 3 wonderful boys. I love coffee and coffee table books. My favorite coffee is fresh ground from Starbucks. I totally, completely without waiver support our troops. I have had the honor of knowing someone who has just returned home from the war. He is very near and dear to my heart and I love him for fighting for our freedom. I am a huge fan of the city of New York. I love the city and all it has to offer. I am originally from Middle Georgia, which makes me a Georgia Peach!

Solar Eclipse...

Well, we couldn't experience the eclipse so I thought I would share a couple of photos with you. These were my favorite. They say that the next solar eclipse will be in 2008. This just goes to show that there is something larger than us in this life. God never ceases to amaze me with His beautiful pictures He offers us to view. The cycle of life here and everywhere continues on thanks to Him.
Have a great day and a great cup of coffee!!
Love you, Sherry

Thank You.......

March 20, 2006
Three years ago today a still very angry nation took a stand...air strikes were sent into Baghdad, Iraq with ground troops to follow in from Southern Iraq, entering from Kuwait. This was nothing like I have ever experienced in my life...and then to experience it further in having someone who is still very much near and dear to my heart go over and do his part was a huge experience in itself. Being apart from someone, especially in those circumstances, whom you love with all your heart and soul is trully an eye-opener. I didn't realize just what I was taking for granted...bringing him coffee, sitting next to him on the couch, talking with him, inhaling the smell of him and not being able to wake up next to him so I slept on his side of the bed to be close to him!!!! Although I made it and Joe is now home safe and sound, I realize there are those out there that have not been as fortunate as I!! To all of those wives, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and children...my sincerest condolences. Be not sad, but be proud of your loved one for what they did and stood for. Easier said than done, I know...but please know that I am a HUGE fan of our military and what they are enduring so that I may sleep at night. I am even more of a fan of those who support me because I support them!! I wanted to take this time to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to all of those who have served and continue to serve and will soon serve this great nation!!! And to all of those who are left behind just as I was...a HUGE THANK YOU to you too!!! And as I used to sign all of Joe's emails to him I will sign to all those left behind...Stay Strong!! Stay Healthy!! Stay Focused!!
Thank You for all you do!! It's time for a great cup of coffee!!!

Friends...Mild...Smooth...Bold...

You know what?....Friends are very precious commodities! And those of you who know what I mean will also know what I mean when I ask the question, "Why did we lose touch?" I cannot believe how consumed we become within our lives that we lose touch with those friends that meant and still mean the world to us!! And in the world of coffee, we can say we have three types of friends~~Mild~~Smooth~~Bold!
I know I have some that fall in each of those groups...and not to say that any one is better than the other; just that the relationships themselves are different. And before we lost touch a particular friend that was considered one type may have slipped into another type and vice versa. In fact, I just got off of the phone with a very dear friend from back home in Warner Robins, Ga whom I would consider now a mild relationship, but used to be very much a bold relationship. He didn't even recognize my voice. He not recognizing my voice didn't hurt; realizing why he didn't recognize it is what hurts!! And we're both at fault for that. This is not a one-sided issue; it can't be if you're friends. I would give anything to have that Bold relationship back again. We were each others confidants. I love you Kurt!! Now, our friendships don't fall into these "types" if you will, just because we lose touch. They can be this way from the start. I do have a friendship that I would say started as Mild and quickly went to Bold; and yes that friendship would be with Kristina!!! I think we all have some Smooth friendships, I know I do. And those are just as great as the others. And while I have been writing this I have come to the conclusion of just how great a ring of Mild, Smooth, and Bold friendships I have circling me!! All of you know who I am talking about...you were there for me for at least 8 months while I endured the absence of Joe, became a much stronger person through and through and realized how lucky I was to have the opportunity to be a part of such a huge life experience. And I would do it again, no matter the outcome!!!! But now, my friends, I am here for you. It's your turn to lean on me, cry on my shoulder and bend my ear!! So know you can call on me and I will give you all I have to give in a Mild, Smooth or Bold way; whichever you need at that particular time. I love you friend; I love you!!!!
See, it's not just for coffee anymore : ) How do you take your coffee?
Have a coffee bean weekend!!
Love your friend,
Sherry

Life and Love, what else is there?

Really...what else is there? You might say, well Sherry, there's my children, parents, job, hobbies, etc...and you're correct in your response, but just what are all of these things but Life and Love. Your life is full of life and your life is full of love and lets hope that your love is full of life!! So again, I ask, "what else is there?" We are too focused today on just getting things done and getting them done so quickly that we really need to slow down and live and love and love and live...don't you think? We are in so much of a rush these days too(me included)why is that? I'll tell you what I think...we're not starting our day early enough...no really, hear me out. We have, what is so popular...a snooze button and we need to stop using it. Get up and get going!! You know what it takes you as an individual to get ready for your day and yet you reach sleepily over and hit the snooze button. When you finally get out of bed, you're rushing around getting ready and you become frustrated because..."what! I'm running late?"...well, why is that? And who do you have to blame...yourself. And then the rest of your day is rushed as well, until........you lay your head on your pillow in pure exhaustion. Now don't confuse living life to the fullest, living life in the fast lane with living life trying to beat the clock and never feeling like you've accomplished anything; they're very different. In fact, "Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly shouting....Wow! What a ride!" But for all of you who disagree with the previous statement or my entire entry, remember this..."Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!" Let's face it, who wants to dance when they're thoroughly exhausted? So come on, fill your life up with life and love; and while you're at it liven up your love in every way imaginable!

When you get a free minute...enjoy that cup of coffee with me here online : )

Have a great evening!! Sweet Dreams of coffee beans!!

All my love, Sherry

My loves of life.....

Let's start out with...I am an avid coffee drinker, well, I can't afford to smoke so I drink coffee : ) I love the holiday season and I decorate my Christmas Tree in deep shades of purple, which is my favorite color. My favorite time if year is fall; I love watching the leaves turn their bright golden yellows and fiery oranges in the first smell and feel of the cool fall air. I love to watch college football and being from Georgia, I am a Georgia Bulldog fan--Go! Dawgs!! I like the snow...and it doesn't have to stick-I love just watching it fall from the sky--there is something very peaceful about falling snow. I may not read much, but I love to be surrounded by good books. As you can see by my blog, I love to write creatively, such as journaling and short stories...I haven't written any stories in a long while, but am going to get back into it(wish me luck). I love to bask in the sun(and I know, I know, its bad for you, oh well)I prefer to lay by the pool, but will take the beach when the opportunity presents itself. I am very fair skinned, but I think I look good with a tan. I love to visit the city and by that I mean, I love to go to Atlanta and I finally had the opportunity to visit New York in 2004(thanks Joe)...I would love to live in New York(if only briefly). I have 3 dream vacations I hope to see come true(one of them already came true...remember, I went to New York)...#1~Life is a Highway~fly to Maine, stay there for a couple of days and then hop in my rental car/truck and travel home via the Eastern Seaboard; #2~Sail Away with Me on an all-inclusive working sailing cruise and #3~Mush! on an Alaskan Cruise with me!!! Now you know just a little bit more about me : )
Okay, now go get you a cup of coffee : )

When My Angel Comes...

I want to be smiling
When the Angel comes,
Because I will be going
To my heavenly home.
I may be crying
When the Angel comes
Because I have to go
And leave those I love so.
You did not know my pain
Before the Angel came
and I hope you have none
Before the Angel comes.
I will see you again
After the angel comes
When you come to be with me
In our heavenly home.
by Helen Francis Reeves
This poem was written by my grandmother just before her Angel came to take her home. She went to her heavenly home on May 12, 1989. My brother and I called her "Mama Reeves". She was the mother of my father and we all miss her dearly. Mama Reeves was my connection to my feminimity due to the fact that I was quite the tomboy growing up. I was out playing kickball, riding bikes, playing football(more on that later), climbing trees with my cousins at Bebe's house(grandmother), but definitely not playing with dolls like most little girls do. Mama Reeves was a very delicate, fragile, fashionable, strong willed and woman of her word. Her delicacy was everything but, yet soft to the touch. Her fragility was in the manner of the way God built her, yet very strong. Her fashion sense was always prevelant in that I could just hear her say, "Honey, your hat, purse and shoes should always match!! And then on Sunday's, you should add gloves!" Her strong will was always present in that fact that you take care of business and just get things done. Her word was just that...she knew it wasn't The Gospel because she knew that belonged to Him, but it was ever present when she stood by Papa throughout hard times and good times. We are all made up of the different people in our lives and my part of Mama Reeves that I am made consist of...stopping and smelling the roses, believing, not losing sight of the good in all of the bad around us, my fair skin and brunette hair, my love of big band music, the love of the ocean and being ME. I believe we all have guardian angels watching out for us and I trully believe that mine is Mama Reeves! I miss her!! My heart hurts because she is not here to enjoy her great grandchildren where she would impose upon them her delicacy, fragility, fashion, strong will and her word. To all of you who have lost a grandparent/s or family member...May God Bless You!!!
It's a beautiful day...stop and smell the coffee : )
With Love, Sherry

and yet, more about coffee.....

Although, this entry has nothing to do with Starbucks, it does have to do with coffee, health and fitness...take note of the tools!! Those of us who just can't do without coffee (ME), always welcome any coffee information which wafts its aroma our way; beit good : ) or bad : (
You will find in the following that 3 of the 5 are good news and 1 of the 5 is purely informative of just how Caffiene gets to work!!!!! 1) Caffeine aids short-term memory: Researchers have demostrated that short-term memory skills and reaction times are heightened after consuming caffeine. While this might not come as news to anyone who uses coffee to clear the fog of sleep, it had not been scientifically proven before the announcement in Nov' 2005. The researchers were fascinated to see, on a functional MRI test, that coffee drinkers showed increased activity in the parts of the brain that control working memory and attention. 2) Coffee is not addictive: Coffee can be habit-forming but has not been proven truly addictive. The painful symptoms of caffeine withdrawal, however, are quite real. Even people whose sole caffeine hit is a daily 12-ounce cup of joe in the morning report headaches if they stop. Withdrawal symptoms can range from a mild headache, irritability and drowsiness to muscle aches, vomiting, blurred vision and even low-level depression. Nontheless, anyone who tries hard enough can quit. (But why would you want too?) 3) Caffeine works remarkably fast, with its effects felt within five minutes: Like few other foods or drugs, caffeine is immediately absorbed through the stomach and intestines. Seconds after the coffee hits the stomach, caffeine permeates the digestive tract's soft lining and spreads throughout the abody via the bloodstream. It's fat soluble, it's water soluble, it's able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Caffeine even crosses the blood-brain barrier, which is otherwise nearly impervious to molecular invasion. (do you feel like you're deep into a sci-fi film?) Once caffeine storms the castle walls of the brain(now we're in medievel times)the drug sets loose the full potential of its stimulating effects. 4) Coffee helps you breathe better: One biological response to caffeine is that it opens up the oxygen-seeking bronchia in the lungs. This pans out well for smoking coffee drinkers (Daddy/Joe) since it provides them with oxygen they would otherwise strangle with cigarettes. (HMMMM) 5) Coffee has been linked to osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is the disease that makes bones weak and brittle. Ingesting caffeine promotes the excretion of calcium (in urine), which, as every school kid knows, keeps bones strong. So, people who are believed to be at risk for osteoporosis and choose to drink coffee can offset the calcium depletion with a daily glass of milk.
Refill anyone? Why, yes...so take a french press break over these freshly brewed notes on coffee and caffeine, the most widely used stimulant in the world!!! I'll take mine with cream!!
